Official free practice material

The test is now set by Quest Assessments, which publishes four free practice booklets (English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning) with answer-sheet practice.

What to practise

  • Reading comprehension: Read widely every day and answer questions about what the writer means, not only what happens.
  • Maths: Keep arithmetic quick and accurate, and practise multi-step word problems up to the end of Year 6.
  • Verbal reasoning: Build vocabulary and learn the common verbal reasoning question types: codes, hidden words, series and word links.
  • Non-verbal reasoning: Practise shape patterns, codes, reflections, folding and cubes until the question types feel familiar.
